Description

WELCOME TO ENCHANTING 'SUGARBUSH' ESTATE This Historic 1805 estate originally built as a boys school offers quiet Elegance in the magical locale of Barneveld New york. Centrally located 15 minutes to Utica Rome, one hour from Syracuse Airport and a short scenic drive to the heart of the Adirondacks, 'Sugarbush' is presently operated as a Premiere Bed and Breakfast but can easily by enjoyed by the modern Executive family.

Comfortably set on almost 8 acres, pond and countryside views can be enjoyed from every window of the home. The setting for this colonial is nothing short of Idyllic. Well cared for and wonderfully appointed, 'Sugarbush' offers a lifestyle reminiscent of an elegance that cannot be captured with new construction. With 8 bedrooms and 6.5 baths, formal rooms and barn, the property certainly can be continued to be run as a B & B but beckons to the family that knows and understands what is required for superb entertaining.

Built in the early 1800's as a school by John Sherman, grandson of Roger Sherman, one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence. This school became highly prized throughout the country, and men of its studies became prominent in commerce and the professions. In 1822, Mr. Sherman purchased 60 acres of land from the Holland Land Company, all bordering the West Canada creek and what later became known as the famous Trenton Falls. On Trenton Falls, minutes from 'Sugarbush', he erected a small buildng as a rural resort and opened it to visitors. In the early years of the 19th century, the beauty of Trenton Falls became world reknown and became a summer destination for wealthy travelers.

Two further additions were added to the home. The Grand Living room and Master bedroom on the second floor were added by Mr. Chas Miller who was president of The Savings Bank of Utica at the time , early in the 20th century. Dr. Redmond added the game room and more bedrooms on the second floor in the early 40's. The home was then purchased by the existing owners to accomatate their large family.

Truly a masterpiece, this property offers the owner one of the very few historic properties that played a major part in the development of the unique and beautiful upstate New York area. Come experience a more elegant and serene way of life in the foothills of the Adirondacks.
