Area Geography
The magnificent southern Appalachian mountains are some of the most biologically diverse and beautiful landscapes found anywhere in the world. The forest is home to more than 20,000 species of plants and animals, and many of these are found nowhere else across the globe. Numerous clear, cool creeks carve their way through these ancient mountains, frequently forming awe-inspiring waterfalls as they tumble over jagged streambeds. In the spring the mountain comes alive with seas of red, pink, and white rhododendron and mountain laurel blooms and provide truly breathtaking mountaintop views in autumn as the oak and hickory trees change colors to announce the coming winter.
The Cherokee National Forrest is 640,000 acres and recreational opportunities are plentiful, with hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, scenic overlooks, swimming holes, streams, rivers and abundant wildlife. In the Cherokee National Forest there are 43 species of mammals, 55 species of amphibians and reptiles and 154 species of fish.
Black Bear Mountains is literally surrounded by this incredible forest close to Vonore, Tennessee.
Rich in History
Vonore's location at the confluence of the Little Tennessee River and the Tellico River places it near the center of one of the richest archaeological regions in the southeastern United States. The Icehouse Bottom site, located near Fort Loudoun, was occupied by Indigenous Americans as early as 7500 B.C., making it one of the earliest known semi-permanent habitation sites in Tennessee. Within a birds eye view of Black Bear Mountains lie many of American’s historical habitation lands.

Due to it’s magnificent location, rich with beauty and history, Black Bear Mountains is definitely a rare find. You must stand on this Mountain and see for yourself in order to believe what it truly lies beneath your feet.
