Missouri ranks 12th for the size of its agricultural sector. In 2014, the agricultural sector contributed $4.47 billion to the state's economy, or two percent of overall state GDP (placing it 16th among all U.S. states for income generated through farming and agricultural activities). Approximately 50 percent of Missouri's annual revenue from farming is from livestock products (classified as cattle, poultry, sheep and pigs). The other 50 percent comes from crops. Missouri's main agricultural products are soybeans, cattle, corns and hogs. According to official Census Bureau stats, there were 99,171 farms recorded in the state, covering a total of 28.3 million acres (or the equivalent of 63 percent of the entire state land area).
