My husband Jeffrey and I, Beverly, have owned, operated and loved Hungry Mountain Ranch going on 46 years. We would stay here, surrounding by the natural beauty, wonderful seasonal changes forever, were it not for getting old. Not only is this the property rich in water resources, deep soils, privacy, solitude but it was a nurturing place to raise children. The communities from the mouth of the Columbia to the North Cascades are diverse, lively with community festivities, parks, cultural activities and have terrific people. For many years I grew a farmers market garden and sold in Twisp. It was truly community supported agriculture as well as fun a heck! There is nothing more satisfying then being productive raising food.
For 30 years we operated a commercial cow/calf herd utilizing the National Forest Service Rangeland. Hungry Mountain Ranch is well suited for grazing, row crops and or hay ground. We used it for all of those purposes and still raise hay. For five years we had a thriving organic onion and garlic business until we lost our processor. The rotation between the nitrogen rich alfalfa hay and allium crops worked beautifully. If interested we are also selling very complimentary dry-land grazing land a short horse back ride from the main Ranch through USFS. It's called Mills Flat, a 420 acre alluvial fan - flat with some upland forest. It's a speculator panorama, the largest flat bench in the Valley - very visible from air.
Speaking of flying, my husband and I have flown in and out of the Ranch for most of the time we have lived here. We would load up the kids and fly to Bellevue/Seattle area to see family or be in Friday Harbor in 1 hour, 15 minutes to go crabbin. We love to boat on the Columbia River & catch some triploids, or just jump into the azure waters of Lake Chelan. The longest groomed cross country ski trails are just up the highway in the old cowboy town of Winthrop. It was a good way to stay in shape all winter. Recreation is world class!
I cannot say what a jewel this place is. A treasure we hope to find a loving new owner.
