***Historic Wilsonia Cabin*** - That's really all we need to say. This truly is the rarest of the rare. Very seldom does the opportunity arise to buy one of the privately owned cabins in the Wilsonia Historical District at Kings Canyon National Park at Grant Grove. And...this one is a beauty!!!
Located at the 6,700 foot elevation adjacent to the Grant Grove Village, Wilsonia is an enclave of privately owned cabins that date back to 1900. The Wilsonia Historical District was established in 1996 to preserve the private property rights and historical significance of one of the most beautiful spots on earth. The district covers 139 privately owned cabins and over 1,000 acres. From here, you are only a short walk to the most famous tree in the world, the General Grant Tree...our nation's Christmas Tree.

The cabin is beautifully situated. Originally constructed in 1927, it sits on a rare double lot between two National Park Service lots that will never be developed...giving it an usual amount of privacy. The land is breathtaking with gentle ground and towering pines. It is also one of the few cabins with a garage...the garage does need some work.
The cabin is just under 1,100 square feet with 3 bedrooms, living and dining room, a nicely sized kitchen, plus a single bath. Two inter-connected bedrooms are downstairs with a nice 3rd bedroom upstairs. The living and dining areas have beautifully finished wood walls and the space is highlighted by an absolutely awesome white quartz fireplace with sidelight windows...of particular note is the quartz centerpiece star with iron pyrite. The bathroom is small but functional with a stall shower. The exterior of the cabin features split shingle siding with a Borga metal roof. Of further highlight are the wraparound decks with large seating areas front and rear. Off the rear deck is yet another unique piece of history, the original white quartz BBQ. In fact, you will find many exterior quartz accents including a white quartz retaing wall.
As always there are a few negatives...the garage is well built but does need some roofing work and it has a dirt floor. There are a few minor spots on the shingle siding that show a bit of deterioration but, all in all, it is in remarkable condition for a 1927 cabin. The cabin has not been set up for winter use but a new propane stove has been installed so that your use period runs from about April through December. To set it up for full year use will entail some structural changes to allow access into the cabin after the heavy snowfalls of winter...in some years there can be as much as 10 feet on the ground which necessitates provision to gain entry. On the other hand, just imagine how spectacular the park is in winter. It could be well worth your while to make the necessary changes. Overall, the cabin is in great condition and ready for immediate use, but the owner is selling it in its current condition. And, when we say immediate use, we mean it. Except for a few private mementos and possessions, the cabin comes furnished and ready to go.
This is one of the nicest cabins in Wilsonia and it is your opportunity to own a rare piece of Americana. We will be showing by appointment only until winter snows become too heavy. Be smart and don't wait. This property absolutely will not last, but, if you really got on the ball, you could be ready to enjoy Christmas in Wilsonia. This is your chance to obtain a unique property to pass on to your family for generations to come.
