The 1,915 acre Swains Flat Timber Tract is located along the Van Duzen River Valley 3 miles west of Bridgeville, in central Humboldt County, on the south side of Van Duzen River between Swains Flat and Betty Flat. There is a deeded easement from Highway 36, providing excellent access to both domestic and export log markets to Eureka, Arcata and Scotia, all within a 45 to 90 minute haul from the property.
The Swains Flat property is primarily north facing with moderate to steep slopes on Chalk Mountain, and bisected by both Fish and Pip Creeks, tributaries to Van Duzen River.

There is an estimated 28,840 MBF of primarily Douglas-fir and redwood timber based on an updated cruise report completed by James L. Able Forestry in January, 2011. (See Supplemental Information Package for cruise report). The majority redwood volume is in the western portion of the tract. There are 5,600 MBF of tan oak on the property.
There is a well-developed mainline road that crosses both Fish and Pip Creeks, providing good access throughout the property. 80% of the tract can be logged using ground-based logging system. The forest site classification is II to III+.
There are two Timber Harvest Plans (#1-08-154 HUM/1-05-042 HUM) that cover 1,519 acres, or 79%, of the Swains Flat property. The western section of the tract is generally covered by THP 1-08-154 HUM and the remaining is generally covered by THP 1-05-042 HUM. Both plans can be extended for one to three additional years, expiring in July, 2012 and January, 2014. The last harvest was in 2009, and 1,114 MBF were logged. It is estimated that an additional 13,400 MBF could be harvested under the THPs based on current regulations.
Adjoining owners are Humboldt Redwood Company and several private ranches.
