The entrance to this beautiful home is through a combined mud and storage room. The main entrance is to the large dining and reading room. Windows to the south provide ample light. This room has both a Monitor stove and an electric space heater. A French Door at one end takes you out to the new composite deck. There are views of the woods and gardens and if the sun is too hot, just lower the awning. Back in the house adjacent to the dining area is the efficient galley kitchen. Appliances, including a heater, are all electric.
The next room you enter is the sunken living room that measures 15’ X 23’ with windows, again, facing south and views of the yard and woods beyond. There is a large Dutchwest wood stove that functions as the primary heat source for the entire house, with a Monitor stove and/or electric heaters as back up.
From the living room, an Oak Spiral Staircase leads to the second floor where the bathroom is located. It is large, 13’ X 36’ and serves a number of functions. There is a shower and Jacuzzi on one end and washer and dryer on the other. 3 skylights provide plenty of natural light and warmth for all the plants that thrive there, especially the orchids.
Next to the bathroom is a loft measuring 15’ X 9’ that, in turn via a catwalk, leads to the master loft measuring 15’ X 13’. This loft has nice views to the south. It also has a custom built storage unit in place of a conventional dresser. Closets are located in both lofts.
With the 3 sources of heat to choose from and the ever increasing costs of energy, wood is the most economical source. We use about 5 cords of wood and 150 gallons of kerosene annually. The 20 acres behind the house can provide you with the wood with selective cutting. Plenty of maple, birch, some beech, poplar, along with fir and spruce can be found. In the spring some of the maples can be tapped for Maple Syrup.
There are numerous flower beds and a large vegetable garden, blackberries and asparagus patch. 2 large plastic tanks that collect rain are used to water them as needed. There are also 2 sheds to store all you equipment and a 30’ X 30’ garage with workbench. Large enough to hold 2 vehicles easily with room for about 5 cords of wood for the up coming season.
Just 15 minutes away from skiing and golfing.
