The ranch is Southwest of Bowie, Texas in Montague County and lies 2.25 miles South of US Highway 287 on both sides of Highway 59 South. State Hwy. 59 South runs through the middle of the ranch and the northern portion has county road frontage. Part of the eastern portion of the ranch has frontage along FM 2835.

The ranch has been strategically divided into 49 pastures to better manage the native and improved pastures for better grazing purposes. The location of the ranch is key because it lies in the transition area from native tall grass prairie to the post oak region of North Central Texas. Because of the location, there are plenty of wildlife staging areas with lots of elevation and trees and also many grass pastures beneficial for cattle grazing. The JA Ranch is very well watered with its many ponds and three lakes. Well water from the Trinity Aquifer is easily found throughout the ranch for home sites and is excellent drinking water. While the JA Ranch is clearly a top of the line wildlife and equine/cattle ranch, there is also excellent development potential for subdivisions and mini ranches. With its many elevation changes and beautiful tree lined valleys, there are countless home building sites with excellent access and awesome views.
Water: 60+ ponds, 12 acre lake,14 acre lake and a newly constructed 30 acre lake (many stocked with Largemouth Bass, Catfish and Crappie). Good available underground water throughout the ranch. The Trinity Aquifer lies under the ranch at 380 400 ft. deep. The eastern portion of the ranch is traversed by the seasonal Briar Creek, which feeds nearby Amon Carter Lake. Cattle Operation: Current carrying capacity is approximately 350 cow/calf pairs. A well managed rotational grazing system made up of 40 pastures has been in place for almost 4 decades. 300 acres are planted in winter rye grass. A terrace system effectively limits soil erosion. Seven sets of corrals make shipping, receiving, and handling the cattle very easy.
Income Potential: Aside for the cattle operation, there are numerous opportunities for additional income generation. Pecan trees found along the rich bottomland of Briar Creek are commercially harvested. Several bluffs and hilltops make good locations for wind turbines. Clean, native grass seed can be harvested and sold.
