The house is approached by a circular pea gravel (on asphalt bed) driveway off McClellan Road in Jackson, TN. At the entryway a double brick sidewalk lined with hot pink Knock Out Roses provides beautiful color from spring to fall. Ten foot double cypress entry doors with sidelights and transoms are framed by custom made iron gas lanterns of the period. Door hardware is heavy bronze. A wrap around porch on the east, south and west sides of the house is floored in ipe', a Brazilian hardwood nicknamed ironwood" due to its density, weight and insect and rot resistance. It required diamond tip drill bits to screw the wood planks down. Underneath is concrete. This is also true of the second floor porch as well.

Overhead are period reproduction pendant lanterns which cast a warm welcoming glow at night. Ceiling fans on the east and west sides provide cooling breezes in warm weather. Porch ceilings are beadboard painted sky blue. Speakers in the ceiling on the west side allow you to enjoy music on the porch. French doors, which access each room on the main floor, for a total of 5, have working full length wood shutters with hand forged hinges and shutter dogs as do the windows.

The second floor porches have French doors from each of the four bedrooms as well and they are identically fitted out.

Exterior trim (especially note that on belvedere and dormers) was hand cut to replicate that on the Houmas House. Belvedere and dormers are roofed in copper. The house got a new architectural shingle roof in 2008.

At the rear of the house is a large screened porch with old brick flooring salvaged from the Mother Liberty CME Church in Jackson following the tornado. The porch has two ceiling fans for comfort and they are also illuminated. Double cypress doors at the rear mirror those at the front entry and provide a straight shot through the house from front to rear. On the floor down this long hall is beautiful Carlisle heart pine wide plank, extra-long flooring with a nutmeg stain and traditional tung oil finish; all hand finished on site. This flooring is carried throughout most of the main floor, second floor, and the landing and dormers of the third floor.

Main Floor: 12-14" ceilings throughout the main floor with a custom milled five piece crown molding featuring period style dentil molding. Baseboards are three-piece with a height of 12".

Paint colors are from the Benjamin Moore Historic Collection. An antique crystal wall sconce in located in the rear hall (north) and two antique French crystal sconces are found in the hall entryway (south). A large antique crystal French chandelier with ceiling medallion is mounted in the center hall. The main floor is wired for sound with speakers strategically concealed in the ceilings. Heat sensors are wired into the security system for fire safety. Most chandeliers are installed on dimmers to allow you to set any mood you prefer.
