The Farmers Grain Co. of Julesburg, CO, locally known as the Kontny Elevator, is one of several remaining privately owned grain elevators within 150 miles of Julesburg, CO. This family-owned business was purchased in 1943 from the Julesburg Cooperative Grain Company and has continuously served producers within northeast Colorado, southwest Nebraska, and the panhandle of Nebraska buying and selling their corn and wheat. Farmers Grain Co. consists of a grain storage and distribution facility on a 5.675-acre site, located in the Town of Julesburg, Colorado in the northeast corner of Colorado. The majority of the facilities are located along 1st Street between Oak and Ash Streets, with Butler flat storage located northeast of Ash Street along 2nd Street. The improvements consist of a grain elevator facility with licensed storage capacity of 1,838,000 bushels, but effective usable storage of 1,500,000+ bu storage. The storage consists of two concrete elevator complexes with a total of 52 concrete bins. Elevator A includes 90-foot elevators with headhouse built in 1947, and annex built in 1953. Elevator B includes 102-foot elevators with headhouse built in 1976. Toward the northwest part of the site along 2nd Street are three large metal grain bins with a capacity of 600,300 bushels. Two were built in 1978 and one was added in 2000. These three facilities have two unloading pits each with 10,000 bph legs.
A 28,800 square feet Butler building is located on the northeast part of the site with flat storage capacity of 332,000 bushels
