At only 11 years old, Sarah became one of the richest Black Americans of the early 20th century after oil was discovered on land allotted to her as a descendant of Creek Freedmen. Her allotment became part of the legendary Cushing-Drumright Oil Field, and her story spread across the nation as a symbol of perseverance and possibility. An account of her life is about to be retold on the big screen with the movie, "Sarah's Oil," which opened in theaters November 6th.
