Located just a mile and a half from Lake Superior and near Port Wing, this prime hunting tract is located in the mineral-rich red clay country near the lake’s shore. The spreads, tine length, and mass have always been better closer to the big water, similar to farm country bucks closer to the Mississippi. I always feel the need to explain this because soils and habitat everywhere are simply not the same and can vary in as little as 20 miles, but when close to big water, antler growth is always better naturally due to minerals in the soils. The land features ravines and gently rolling terrain with a feeder creek running through near the center of the property. Some very nicely established food plots have ladder stands, and custom elevated blinds guarding the locations. The trails are in excellent shape and have been maintained with rock in the low spots. A couple of free span ATV bridges go across the ravine. The land has been managed for whitetail deer right down to the last previous harvest, and there are a plethora of stand trees available that are mostly balsam fir or spruce. The aspen has come in beautifully and will be a substantial harvest for the future. This is a great place for a cabin or to just come up and hunt! This area has some of the best deer hunting in the state, just a short drive from phenomenal Lake Superior and river trout and salmon fishing. If you’re looking for the ultimate spot, this one would be on my list.
