Redding is the county seat of Shasta County, California. Located in the northern part of California, it lies along the Sacramento River, 162 miles (261 kilometers) north of Sacramento. Due to the elevation and precipitation differences, the forests hosts a large number of plant species. The western side of the brushy foothills consist mostly of bitterbrush and curl-leaf mahogany.
