Walker Canyon Ranch
OVERVIEW
Once part of the legendary Matador Ranch, the Walker Canyon Ranch is now being offered for sale. Note that the owner maybe willing to entertain offers for a portion of the ranch, with a minimum purchase being 2000 acres. The centerpiece of the Walker Canyon is its beautiful 100+ acre live water lake, which is the largest in Motley County and the surrounding area. The topography consists of large hills and gently rolling prairie; and the soil is primarily a red sandy soil loam. Mesquite flats, cedar trees and native grasslands dominate the landscape, while hardwoods offer substantial cover for wildlife. There are two good cattle working pens. The Walker Canyon Ranch is approximately 10 miles north of Matador, Texas on Hwy 94. Access to the property is from the south side, which runs along four and a half miles of Highway 94. The property can also be accessed from CR22 and CR239.
WILDLIFE
Wildlife includes Trophy Whitetail deer, Mule deer, Quail, Ducks and Geese, Turkey, Doves, Wild Hogs.
An area state biologist says, This is the region where both large populations of mule deer and whitetail can be found.
Quail Haven. With good bird dogs, you can find 20 coveys of Bob Whites per day!
There is a 30 acre food plot planted in wheat, seven corn slingers, three deer blinds, two duck blinds, a fishing dock.
WATER
The ranch has an abundance of water. The lake and six wells located throughout the ranch provide the primary source of water. Wells are 140-270 feet deep. There are also several surface ponds, including two new lakes on the eastside one approximately six acres and the other approximately three acres.
Seasonal creeks run across the ranch and a solar pump on the lake plus two storage tanks provide additional water in the pipelines. New galvanized and fiberglass troughs hold water for livestock and wildlife.
HOUSING
There is a two-bedroom hunters cabin, which has electricity and running water and sleeps six, located on the west side of the property.
