Overlooking the beautiful valley of the Little Llano river with its cottage homes, surrounded by waving fields of grain, and bowing herds, the river fringed with vines, covered forest trees, breaks forth from some hidden reservoir, of cool, crystal waters. Spicewood Springs, shaded by gigantic Oak, Walnut, and Sycamore trees, and bordered with the sweet scented spicewood shrub from which it takes its name. Bubbling up the sparkling water fills a large natural rock basin or pool from which a bold strong stream flows among beds of wild grasses and bright hued woodland flowers, singing its merry song of restless activity; then finding in its course, a declivity, it dashes wildly, leaping from crag to crag in its abrupt decent, a miniature cascade, splashing its crystal water oer beautiful waving ferns, then, weary of its mad fury quietly it forms itself into tiny platelets, bordered with long, waving grasses and drooping, feathery ferns, it becomes the shady home of innumerable little fishes, that darting here and there, flash their rich prismatic colors to admiring visitors. Restless from its prison-like life again it seeks escape and repeating its cad career, over craggy cliffs, into pebble bottomed pools, the sparkling rivulets, joined by the waters of many sister springs that bubble forth from rocky caverns and mossy dells, increasing in volume, it courses onward, through cooling forests, shadows, and sun-lit patches of brightness, between towering walls and high, rugged cliffs of granite, that makes the beautiful, picturesque, wonder Willberns Glen of Llano county.
