The YO Ranches storied legacy began in 1880 when Charles Schreiner, a Texas Ranger, purchased the ranch, its cattle, and its brand from Taylor and Clements, funded by the proceeds from driving over 300,000 head of Texas Longhorns to Dodge City. In the 1950s, a descendant of Schreiner introduced a variety of exotic animals, which successfully acclimated to the rugged terrain. What started as a conservation initiative evolved into a successful trend of exotic hunting, providing crucial revenue during drought years. While many ranchers followed suit, the YO Ranch remains recognized as "Americas Original Game Ranch."
