Organic Farm Land Information
Popularity with organic-certified food has sparked a growth of smaller organic farms, producing everything from lettuce and apples to eggs and meat. Although a tiny percentage of the overall farm acreage throughout the United States, increased market demand has a direct effect on the number of farms producing organic produce. Statistics from a 2017 survey conducted by the Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) showed there were 2.3 million certified organic farmers worldwide, although these were mostly concentrated in countries in Oceania, Europe and Latin America. The U.S. share of organically managed agricultural land was about 7.5 million acres, or less than 1 percent of overall U.S. farmland.
