Billing

How often am I billed? Billing is typically monthly until you downgrade or delete your ad or bulk plan. You can downgrade or delete your ad on the "My Properties" page by clicking on "downgrade" under your listing.

What does it cost? You can see our current pricing plans here: http://www.landandfarm.com/about/pricing/

How do I change my credit card info? You can change your credit card info by signing in, clicking on My Properties, and going to "Edit Billing Info" in the left-hand menu, shaded green. You will need to re-enter your entire credit card number, expiration date, and billing address at the same time. Please do not leave any fields blank, or the card will be rejected by our credit card processor.

I got a notice that my credit card didn't work, or I received an email that my credit card didn't work. What do I do? When your credit card is declined for any reason, we send you an automatic e-mail saying why it was declined, if the credit card processor passed along that information to us, and that the card connected to your account will be re-billed in three days. Once you receive this email, you should go online and edit your account to either correct wrong or inaccurate card information, or input a different card entirely.

How do I turn my ad off? Log in to LandAndFarm.com, and go to "My Properties." Underneath the Ad Summary for each ad that you have placed online is a Downgrade link. Clicking on Downgrade offers two options: Slow Downgrade means that it stays on-air, but at the end of the billing cycle (i.e. One month from the date of purchasing the ad), the ad goes off-air permanently and billings stops. This is useful if you want your full month's worth of advertising, but don't wish to continue advertising after that. At the end of the billing cycle, you will receive an email confirming your downgrade. Fast Downgrade means the ad is taken off-air, but is left in the system, in case you change your mind or wish to put it back on-air. Delete means the ad is deleted from the system, and if you need to put it back on air, you will have to re-create it.

To turn off an unlimited listing plan, log in to LandAndFarm.com and go to My Properties. Under Bulk Listing Plans, click "End this plan." Select fast downgrade, slow downgrade, or delete. All listings affiliated with your plan will turn off according to the downgrade option selected.

Please note, there are no refunds for unused time. Advertising on LandAndFarm.com is paid for in advance, one month at a time, until you downgrade or delete your listing.

Will I still be billed after I turn my ad off? You will not be billed again for a single ad once it is turned off. You will also not be billed again for an unlimited plan once it is turned off. However, you will not receive a refund for any unused time. Example: You purchase a Standard Classified on April 1; on April 20 you decide to stop advertising and you downgrade your ad. You have already been charged for one month's worth of advertising, from April 1. However, you will not be billed again for advertising on May 1, because you opted to downgrade your ad.

Can I save myself some money by turning my ad off early? Not really, no. The reason is that we only sell ads in increments of one month, and we only accept payment in advance.

Is it safe to put in my credit card on your service? Yes, it is safe to enter credit cards on our service. For every page that you enter information in, or that is displayed, we use SSL encryption, which is the same encryption employed by major e-commerce sites. This is the current global standard for encryption and transfer of financial and personal data.

Do you accept checks? No, we do not accept checks. If you have questions about our payment system, call 1-888-FARM-BUY.

Photos

How do I upload photos? You must first sign in, using the login you received when you registered on LandAndFarm.com. You will be able to add photos once you place your listing (fill out edit form). Once you have done this, go to "My Properties" and click on "Photos" underneath the ad summary. On the next page, click on "Add more photos." Follow the directions presented to add your photos.

What are the size requirements for photos? Photos must be no larger than 2 megabytes each. If they are larger, you may see a gray area in the uploaded photo.

Why are my photos gray? Your photos are gray, or partially gray, because the size of the photo file is too big for our site. LandAndFarm.com allows you to upload photos of 2 megabytes or less. If your photos are grayed-out, you may resize your photos and try to upload them again or try using a different photo. Another possibility that would make the file size too big is that the dimensions (height and width) of the picture are too big. If you can check this, try to make sure the width of the picture is no more than 500 pixels. Many times, reducing the absolute dimensions of the picture will reduce the file size of the picture considerably.

How many photos can I upload? That depends on what type of listing you have, since Standard listings and Premium listings have different amounts. For Standard listings, you can upload as many as 16 photos. For Premium listings, you can upload as many as 50 photos. You do not have to upload them all at once, and you can replace the photos you have uploaded with new photos at any time.

I don't like the photo that site visitors see when my property comes up in a search. What can I do about this? You can To change your thumbnail photo, log in and go to "My Properties." Under the Ad Summary is a link. Click on this, and you will see your property photos on the left, and the tools to manipulate the photos on the right. Next to each photo you should see a link that says, "Click to make this the search thumbnail photo." Click on this link and the photo next to it will be the representative photo for the ad on all search results.

Can I send you photos by email? Yes, you can send photos to your listing by email. Navigate to the photo upload page (My Properties -> Photos -> Add a photo), then click on the email link to open a new email on your computer. The subject and address of the email will be automatically filled in. Then, attach your photos to the email and send it. Do not attach more than 5 megabytes of photos to a single email (2 megabytes is best).

Once your email has been sent from your computer, our system will need to process them. To process them, navigate to the photo page (My Properties -> Photos). Click on the link "check for emailed photos." The system will automatically add any photos it receives.

Your photos are added to your listing in an "OFF" position, meaning they are not visible. We do this to prevent unknown individuals from adding visible photos to our site. You can now turn on each photo you wish to be visible.

Perimeter Mapping Instructions

Instructions to draw a map of your property

When you first open the perimeter (border) mapping page, you may see a red flag in the center of the map. The red flag approximates the location of your property using latitude and longitude. This is used for map searching, but it is not related to perimeter mapping. The flag will disappear when you start drawing your border map. You can edit this point by clicking on "edit lat/lon". The location of this flag will not affect your perimeter map.

  1. To draw a perimeter map, navigate on the google map to the approximate location of your property. You can navigate using the buttons on the left side of the map. The interface is the same as the one used by Google Maps.
  2. Click anywhere on the map and a blue marker will appear. This is the first point in your perimeter.
  3. Click somewhere else on the map and you will see a red line. This is a perimeter line. Keep clicking and you will create a perimeter.
  4. At some point you will want to close the perimeter to make a complete shape by connecting your last point to your first point. To do this, click on the "close perimeter" link above the map. Your map is now closed.
  5. Make sure you save your map or you will lose your information when you navigate away from the page.
  6. To clear your map and start over, click on "clear entire map" above the map. Your map will be cleared. Note that your map will not be permanently cleared until you click on "save".

Contacting Sellers - Emails

I e-mailed the seller but but he didn't respond, what can I do? We're not sure why the seller didn't respond to your e-mail. Sellers who pay for ads should respond to inquiries, but we cannot, unfortunately, compel a seller to respond. Some sellers list other contact channels: phone, fax or postal address. You may try one or all of these to elicit a response.

I received spam. What do I do? You can send it to us at customer-service@landandfarm.com. We block known spammers from our service. However, you may sometimes get an inquiry from someone who is simply attempting to elicit a reply to obtain your email. You do not have to respond to an inquiry, so examine inquiries carefully to judge whether they are legitimate - send them to us if you are not sure. We also try to alert you if spammers get through: we mark emails that we suspect are spam. If you think you have been sent spam, please forward it to us so that we may take appropriate action.

Can visitors see my email address? No, they cannot see a seller's email address. We hide advertiser e-mail addresses by the use of an online form, so that you are protected from automated programs that collect email addressed and spam your email address with unwanted mail and potentially dangerous attachments.

I lost an email from a potential buyer, what do I do? Emails sent via LandAndFarm.com to advertisers are saved online. You can see emails sent to you by clicking on the appropriate link under your advertisement on the MyProperties page.

Mapping a Property

Where's the mapping feature? When a seller provides a specific address for a property, our system places a map-link at the bottom of the ad, below the address. Clicking on the link will pull up a map of the area surrounding the property.

How do I change my map location? We match your property's address against a global database of latitude and longitude. If we cannot find y our latitude and longitude based on the address of your property, we do not display a link to a map on your listing.

To move the marker or add a marker click on the "map" link on the MyProperties page, shown below:

Quick Start - Sellers

How Do I Start Advertising on LandAndFarm.com? First, Register on LandAndFarm.com. This is free, but we require you to register before you purchase advertising.

Second, once you have registered, go to your e-mail and collect your login and password. Use these to sign-in to LandAndFarm.com, by clicking on the "Login" link in the toolbar of our homepage.

Next, after you sign-in, you will find yourself at your Account Summary. Look on the left-hand side of the page; you will see a green-shaded menu. Within the menu is a link: "Place a Classified Ad - ADD PROPERTY." Click on this link.

Then, follow the prompts. Remember, you will create your online ad first, and then below that, on the same 'edit' page, the system will ask you to create (or approve an automatic ad via the link "Suggest Text") your print ad for our monthly  magazine, Land and Farm Bulletin; print is included in the online ad price.

Finally, once you have created the text portion of your ad, and paid for it, go back to the Account Summary under My Properties; use the Photo link to upload photos.  You will see instructions for mailing photos into our system, which automatically posts them to your ad. If the photos are correctly formatted, and the instructions for mailing photos have been properly executed, the photos should post quickly - you'll need to 'turn on' the photos once they post to the system, so they're visible with your ad. Your photos need to be in electronic (digital) format; if they are not in digital format, take them to a big-box retailer and ask that the pix be put on a compact disk, so you can upload them. You can see our pricing here: http://www.landandfarm.com/about/pricing/.

If you have any questions, contact us at www.landandfarm.com/lf/asp/lf_contact.asp or 1-888-FARM-BUY.

Quick Start - Buyers

LandAndFarm.com offers a number of ways to find your target property...or just to see what's out there, or on the market.

First, Take a look at the left-hand menu on the homepage, below the green-shaded portion. You will see categories for property, organized by Type of Land Use, Price Range, Acreage and Country and State or Province. You can click on any of these links to browse a particular category or sub-category. Next to each division is a number, which represents the number of ads in that category now on the site. Because we allow property advertisers to check up to three land-uses, per property ad, some overlap is expected.

Second, you may search for your target property by clicking on the "Search Properties" link in the toolbar of the homepage, in the upper-left hand corner of that page. The search page allows you to narrow your search using a range of parameters, including location, type of property and many other other elements.

Once you have found a property you're interested in, click on the blue, hyper-linked headline for that property ad. Doing this will bring up the full ad page; at the bottom of the page is seller contact information, i.e. address, phone number, as well as an email form that is tied to the email the seller used when registering with LandandFarm.com, and placing and purchasing their property ad. You can contact a seller however you choose.
