Calion Tract The S of the NE of the NE , SE of the NE , Frl. Part of the SW of the NE , NE of the SE ; all in Section 23, Township 16 South, Range 14 West, +/- 128 acres, Union County, Arkansas. This tract is located in northern Union County, just east of Calion Lake and within a few hundred feet of the Ouachita River. The timber on this tract is located within three (3) general timber stands. Stand 1 is approximately 76.2 acres and consists of planted pine trees about 14 years old with a component of mixed natural hardwood pulpwood trees and pine and hardwood saplings. This stand is approaching time for a first thinning har-vest offering near term income to the owner. Stand 2 is about 7.3 acres in a stream management zone along the creek near the south end of the tract and contains a light stocking of hardwood sawtimber and pulpwood and widely scattered pine sawtimber trees. Stand 3 is about 38.3 acres located on the northern end of the tract on the ridges dropping off towards the Ouachita River bottoms. This area consists of pri-marily pine and hardwood pulpwood with some pine and hardwood sawtimber. The remaining +/- 6.2 acres lies in gravel roads, pipeline right-of-ways and oil well sites.
The topography of the tract is rolling with about 76% of the soil being Sacul fine sandy loam and the re-maining 34% soil being Guyton silt loam. This soil offers excellent wet weather logging capabilities and is enhanced by the good road access crossing the tract. The NRCS Web Soil Survey reports the average site index for Loblolly Pine to be 90 (base age 50), making this tract an excellent site for long term timber growth.
