Jicarilla Apache Reservation trophy mule deer tags have been fetching over $100k at auctions in recent years -- this property is separated from the reservation by Hwy 96 and a small chunk of BLM land and receives OTC deer tags! When you add in the landowner elk tags it receives through the NM EPLUS elk management system, you’d be hard pressed to find another property of this size that produces such quality animals on a yearly basis.

The current owner is working on the second year of a three-year, inheritable Natural Resources Conservation Service grant to make improvements to the property based on Forestry and NRCS recommendations to receive habitat improvement incentive tags through the EPLUS system. The vegetation has been well managed, with sage mitigation and a 135+ acre tree thinning campaign recently completed.

There are six active dirt tanks on the property, four of which are generally year-round and one is extra deep to maintain water in even the worst droughts. Improvements

Year-round access to the property is ensured via both the county-maintained Naranjo Creek Road or directly off of Highway 96. Both access points are gated, and there is power and city water available at both locations, as well as an existing parking pad at the top of the property at the Naranjo Creek Road entrance. There are multiple Cat roads to ease access to various parts of the property.

Recreation

In addition to the hunting offered by the property, the nearby Jemez Mountains offer a variety of hiking, biking, skiing, and fishing opportunities, including Pajarito Mountain Ski Area in Los Alamos, the Valles Caldera National Preserve, and the San Pedro Parks Wilderness. The San Pedro Parks offers almost 100 miles of multi-use trails, including the popular Vacas Trail leading to San Gregorio Lake. The lake and several small streams offer anglers the opportunity to catch stocked rainbow and native Rio Grande cutthroat trout. The Continental Divide Trail passes through this area as well.

Agriculture

The property currently features four food plots that are easily accessed on the recently-carved cat roads. The mix was determined by the Forestry Service, and includes wheat, clover, braum grasses, etc. Treed areas consist of a mix of pinon, juniper, and ponderosa throughout the property, with a few deciduous trees interspersed.

The 290 acre BLM lease is rated at 60 AUM but the current owner has not run cattle on the property in order to maximize its utility as deer and elk habitat.

The property is located just southeast of Regina, NM and is an easy 90 minute drive from the Albuquerque International Sunport via I-25, US Highway 550, a major north-south thoroughfare between Albuquerque and Durango CO, and NM Highway 96.
