Unlike traditional mulching for land clearing, which leaves behind a thick mat that smothers the native seed bed for extended periods, this method enhances rainwater absorption, allowing moisture to penetrate deep into the soil and recharge the subsurface water supply. It’s not just about aesthetics, though the results are undeniably striking. It’s about fostering an environment where native grasses and wildlife can thrive. Equally important is what was avoided. Large-scale cedar removal using bulldozers can leave the soil exposed and vulnerable to erosion—something the Heritage Land Group deliberately steered clear of. Instead, the focus was on methods that preserve soil integrity and promote long-term regeneration.
