Smith Ford

Smith Ford Tract is a big outdoor playground rolling across the hills and hollows of western York County. It lies on Smith Ford Road a couple of miles west of the small town of Hickory Grove.

Broad ridges covered with young pine give views of the surrounding hills. Guyonmoore Creek is big, year-round stream with a rock and gravel base that flows through the land and along its boundary for more than 8,000 feet. Patches of hardwood stand along the creek and on hillsides. Almost half the land is covered by mature forest with pines around 40 years old and hardwoods that are older.

Wood ducks can be seen dabbling in the pools along Guyonmoore Creek. Quail are heard calling among the youngest pines. Wild turkeys are common and whitetail deer are abundant.
