Wheeler Feed Yard which is located northwest of Wheeler, Texas on Highway 152 is a highly efficient feedyard located close to packers in Kansas as well as the Texas Panhandle plants. The feedyard property consists of 549 +/- acres of deeded ground and approximately 440 acres of leased ground (33 acres more or less of feed pens are located on leased ground). Average annual snowfall is just 3.5 with average annual precipitation totaling 21.63 according to the Western Regional Climate Center. The well drained, sandy-soil, feedyard is permitted for 90,000 head and has fed up to 32,000 head using the 25,000 of bunk space. A tornado in 1995 brought about the rebuilding of most of the feedyard.
